Edible Interview

Stay Calm Cupcake Shop

Cupcakes, cupcakes and more cupcakes is what you will find at this lovely edible shop.  The cupcakes in a jar are unique and would make an excellent gifts for the upcoming holiday season or just because.

What is the name of your shop and how did you come with the name?
The name of my shop is “Stay Calm Cupcake Shop”. It comes from a saying that I love “Stay Calm, Have a Cupcake”. I find that so many times in life we take things too seriously and stress about way to much. So when life gets hectic, just stay calm, and have a cupcake!

What is your product line?
I sell all things cupcakes! Right now I am selling cupcake jars, cupcake sprinkles, and homemade cupcake kits.

How did you decide what items to put in your shop?
I have always loved to bake, but cupcakes are my all time favorite. It was a no brainer, sell what I’m good at making….cupcakes!

What challenges did you encounter when you opened your shop and how did you over come them?
I just opened my shop a couple months ago. So right now, I am facing the challenge of being a new seller. I am having a hard time getting people to leave me feedback on the products they have received from me.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get started?
Sell products that you believe in and that would love to buy. The key to success is loving what you do.

What would you say makes you passionate about what you do?
I’m passionate about cupcakes because I love the look on someone’s face when I give them a box of freshly made, beautifully decorated cupcakes. Cupcakes make people happy, and that makes me love what I do.

Do you feel the social networking is helpful in making your business a success?
Social networking is the only thing that is helping me get my name out there!! I hope to open a bakery one day but saving up the money has been difficult. Social networking is free and it’s getting my product out there!

What local venues have you had success with your edibles?
I cater a lot of office meetings, birthday parties, and special events. My mom is my biggest fan and always gets me some great sales!

Where does your inspiration come from?
I get a lot of my inspiration from cupcake blogs, magazines, and successful bakeries all over the U.S. I like to take an idea and create it into one of my own. Cupcakes allow me to be creative in ways I never thought I could be. Inspiration comes from anything and everything.

How long have you been baking, who taught you and what was the first thing you baked?
I have been baking since middle school (about 11 years…man I feel old!) I used to bake homemade chewy chocolate chip cookies and give them to neighbors and friends. My mom has always encouraged me to do what I love, so while she didn’t directly give me my love for baking, she pushed me along the way. I think I pretty much taught myself how to bake.

What equipment do you use while baking and what kind of kitchen?
I would be absolutely lost without my Kitchen-Aid mixer. My boyfriend bought it for me for Christmas one year and it has been used weekly ever since! I love it! I bake in a modest size kitchen in my home – hoping to start renting kitchen space at a culinary school pretty soon though.

If you had to put a favorite from your shop, what would it be and why?
My personal Favorite is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake. I am addicted to the creamy frosting and the moist chocolate cake. The more you buy, the less I have to eat!

What is Stay Calm Cupcake Shop’s bestseller?
My cupcake jars! I sell at least 2 orders a week. Yummy cupcake and frosting layered in a mason jar…it’s the perfect gift or late night snack.

Can you tell readers why they should shop at Stay Calm Cupcake Shop?
My products are fresh, delicious, and very reasonably priced. A box of 6 cupcakes (+ shipping) only costs $17 dollars – that means each cupcake is only 2.80! That’s a bargain.

What does it take to get your edibles delivered freshly?
I ship everything 2 day USPS. With cupcakes, you can’t exactly ship them frosted, so I ship them with a piping bag full of my homemade frosting. This way all the buyer has to do is cut the tip off and pipe the icing right on to the cupcake. Yummy and mess free J

What has been the overall reception your shop?
People seem to be pleased with the products I sell – Like I said, I am new but have not gotten any complaints about my products. A lot of people send my items as gifts.

What would you like our readers, potential customers, to know about you and your store?
I’m a passionate cupcake baker that loves what I sell. I would bake cupcakes for free and still be happy about it (too bad the bills don’t pay themselves J) I am always open to suggestions and am willing to create customs listings for you if you have special cupcake needs. I look forward to making your next event a SWEET success!
